Project Workflow Routing

Functional Summary
Some firms perform a semi-structured series of tasks for important services they provide their clients. Waypoint supports all the standard notions necessary to manage workflow. Once your business rules have been configured, users only need to "ask" for the next task to perform and they are automatically assigned the most important next task for the firm. The selection is based on that user's role assignments, their expertise level, whether they are a supervisor, whether a project is a rush, etc. All task efforts are timed for possible client billing. A flexible view of work in progress and another flexible view of historical task outcomes allows management to stay on top of everything.

Case Studies
A recent client collects catalogs from all over the world, converts them into pdf files, adds index links and publishes the entire collection on their web site. They need to stay in touch with each catalog source to be sure that they have the latest catalogs. When each catalog is received, it must be entered into their system, sent to a station where any binding is cut off, then to an imaging station where each page is photographed, then to a step that converts these many images into a single pdf file, then to a station where any table of contents listings receive links to their page references, then to a Q/A step, and finally it gets added to to their live web site.

After we completed their routing system, there is a much lower need for hands on supervision and this has saved the cost of a salary. Because management now has much more detailed information about work in progress it can rebalance task assignments on a daily basis to keep through put moving quickly. With quantitative performance data the firm has been able to achieve higher employee productivity via work team competition and bonuses.
